Software in this category is capable of controlling a camera mounted on a microscope, displaying a live image on the screen, capturing an image (or sequence of images) and storing images to disk. The captured images can then be annoted with scale bars (once calibrated) and lines and text can be added. Nearly all software packages in this category are also capable of many other imaging functions.
